Kevin Smith Announces Controversial New Film Empty

The director of Clerks and Dogma is bringing us an... odd interpretation of the apocalypse.

Kevin Smith recently announced his new project through Facebook, where he posted this screencap:

Kevin Smith Announces Controversial New Film New-kevin-smith-movie

Originally titled Christzilla, Helena Handbag -- apparently a nod to David Lynch's unproduced apocalyptic screenplay One Saliva Bubble -- follows "mankind teaming up with Hell to save existence from extinction at the hands of a Rapturing giant Jesus." This conceit, like Smith's upcoming film Tusk, is based on an episode of his SModcast podcast--referenced in the image above as episode 52: The (C)Rapture.

Smith realizes that "NOBODY'S gonna wanna make that movie" and that he will have to work on a microbudget, but he expresses a desire to return to films that, in his words, "only I would/could ever make."

"JERSEY GIRL, ZACK & MIRI, COP OUT - while I love them all, these are movies anybody could make. Like 'em or hate 'em, nobody else but me could've (or would've) ever made CLERKS. Or CHASING AMY. Or DOGMA. Or RED STATE. Or CLERKS II. Or MALLRATS. Or JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK."

He goes on to say, "I realized that film isn't in my blood... MY films are in my blood. And some of 'em are still in there, so I better get 'em out!"

After Tusk wraps up production, Smith will begin shooting Clerks III in May 2014, followed by Helena Handbag.

I actually enjoyed Jersey Girl and Zack & Miri Make a Porno. Haven't seen Cop Out, got a lot of hate. Red State got a lot of hate also but I enjoyed that film a lot. I'm huge Kevin Smith fan, look forward to his new film.

This guy has a big dick about himself, haven't much cared for many of his films to the degree of favorites and recommendations.
